It casing is made from anodized aluminium & its shape has subtle curves on either side of the casing, with more precise edges towards the top & bottom edges of the casing, which makes the handset feel comfortable to hold when in either horizontal or vertical position. The colour choice of the casing makes the N8 stand out in a crowd & the user can give their N8 a highly fashionable appearance depending on the casing colour chosen. The options include blue, orange, dark grey, silver white & green. Holding the handset in a single hand is easy due to its well proportioned sizing & its overall weight. Its full dimensions are 11.35cm tall by 5.9cm wide by 1.29cm deep when in its vertical position & the Nokia N8 weighs one hundred & thirty five grams with its battery fitted. Customising the N8 is easy thanks to the phones user friendly interface & its three home screens option. The user can add widgets to each of their home screens & use each home screen for different purposes, for example one for business, one for personal use & a general home screen complete with a colourful wallpaper, the choice is yours. To switch between the home screens the user simply uses a gesture to move smoothly between the three customised screens. A 3.5 inch touch screen dominated the front section of the handset & provides a beautiful viewing display, as well as a highly user friendly input method thanks to its touch screen capabilities. It displays up to 16.7 million colours on this OLED capacitive touch screen & provides an outstanding screen resolution of 640 pixels by 360 pixels for a clear, bright & realistic viewing experience. When the user is inputting text including either alphabetic or numeric input, the touch screen will display either a numeric keypad or an onscreen QWERTY keyboard, depending on the users input requirements.

The Nokia N8 has a 12 megapixel digital camera lens situated on the back of the casing which supports outstanding photo & video capturing capabilities. Its HD imaging feature allows the user to capture photos, record videos, edit & view their high definition photos & videos using the Nokia N8. There is an automatic focus feature, Carl Zeiss™ lens, 2 x digital zoom, face recognition feature & a xenon flash available which all add to this truly amazing quality imaging feature. Its xenon flash will ensure the user captures clear & bright photos even when in low light & duller surroundings. After capturing photos or recording video footage the user can use the HDMI connection to view them on a compatible television or projector, which truly displays the high definition quality on a large scale. Viewing high definition digital photos & video at a resolution of 720p provides an amazing quality for the user to enjoy. The N8 supports Dolby Digital Plus which allows the user to experience superior quality sound when using the HDMI to playback their videos or photos with sound on a compatible television or projector. A fully charged battery will provide the user with approximately six hours of video playback time on the Nokia N8, so therefore the user can enjoy viewing videos & movies as entertainment on their N8 handset. A forward facing VGA camera is discretely placed towards the top right hand corner of the N8 which allows the user to capture portraits if desired or this camera can be used when the user is taking part in a 3G video call, therefore providing a face to face call experience. 3D graphics enhance the overall gaming experience on the Nokia N8 allowing the user to use touch screen controls & to play lively & realistic style games. There is a built in stereo FM radio feature & a music player providing two music entertainment features for the user to enjoy. These music features are easily accessed via the main menu & the user can set them as widgets if desired on one of the three home screens. A fully charged battery allows the user to listen to their music for approximately fifty hours but this time may vary depending on other features being used during this time. Finding, transferring & downloading new music is an easy task on the N8 as the phones supports an album art cover flow display allowing the user to find their stored music quickly, plus this phone comes with user friendly connectivity options when transferring music files between compatible devices, & the user can download new music using the built in Web browser to find online music stores.

Social network integration has become important to many mobile phone users & the N8 has incorporated this user friendly social network feature allowing the user to access updates from Twitter & Facebook on one easily accessed application. This application allows the user to share photos & video recording within seconds of them being captured, view live updates on their home screen & even have Facebook events added to their calendar using one simple click of key. Communication without making a call can be useful for today's mobile user, & the wide selection of messaging & email services on this handset allow the user of the Nokia N8 to choose the best possible communication method to suit their communication requirements. Its email service is a push email service which is a direct email service & supports Yahoo® Mail, Gmail™, Hotmail & Windows Live™. Emails can be sent & received complete with email attachments & the user can select an email widget on one of their home screens for easy access to their email account. The N8 supports an instant messaging service which is compatible with many types of popular services including Yahoo, Windows Live, Gtalk, MySpace, OVI Chat & AIM instant messaging. When creating & sending text messages the text is displayed in a conversation style message & the user can share their photos & videos using the popular multimedia messaging service. All the user's contacts are stored in an easy to locate contacts feature & the user can store multiple numbers & email addresses for each contact. There is a smart dialling feature which makes calling contacts a quick & easy task for the user, plus the user can access a list of recently received calls, missed call & dialled calls by access the phones call log.

Its built in GPS navigation with A GPS receiver supports Ovi maps which gives the user a worldwide voice guided navigation system on their Smartphone. This navigation feature will provide voice navigation & will assist the users navigation by either foot or car. Viewing documents in popular formats is possible on the Nokia N8 as the user can view Word, PowerPoint Excel & PDF documents. Accessing the World Wide Web for pleasure or business use can be achieved by selection the Web browser, thereafter the user can enjoy a user friendly search facility & high speed connectivity to the Web. The N8 is a 3G HSDPA Smartphone which comes with built in HSUPA technology, WLAN WiFi® technology & a HDMI connection. It works over HSDPA networks 850, 900, 1700, 1900 & 2100 plus GSM networks 850, 900, 1800 & 1900. A memory card slot allows the user to insert up to thirty two gigabytes of external memory, & the N8 comes with sixteen gigabytes of internal memory which is ready for the users storage needs. When connecting to other devices the user can use either a Bluetooth® wireless connection or a micro USB cabled connection, depending on compatibility between the N8 & the users chosen device & the users connectivity needs. Its battery will provide approximately 12.5 hours of GSM talk time or 5.5 hours of 3G talk time depending on other features being used during this time & provided the battery is fully charged.
